This building design combines two inter-dependent performance systems, which intensify the inter-relation of one to another. The twisting plane begins as a complex facade treatment filtering out light where necessary. This element then peels off the building and bifurcates into two planes to enclose an exterior terrace dining area. The twisting element is now self-supporting and acts as a boundary between public and private patio areas.
Finally, the piece intersects the glass space, and develops into a substantial structure to support the entire building. The glass acts as a curtain wall supported by steel beams extending out from the twisting planes. Here the delaminated planes thicken and become an enclosed interior space yielding an opportunity for building services. The two planes now become the structure, and an enclosure.
